DO YOU BOOK DIY SHOWS?-All of you who book shows across the United States, get in touch with me please. Asian Man Records bands want to tour, so get in touch if you can help with booking. mikeasianman@aol.com TRADES: Anybody live in the bay area?? Near San Francisco?? Want to trade stuff for Asian Man Records cd's, shirts, etc.. What free stuff you ask?? Basically anything...if you work in a restaurant, theater, any type of entertainment like arcades, batting cages, amusement parks, blah blah....anything. Let's trade!! Anything we have at Asian Man is up for trade. 8:26 AM Good morning or evening or afternoon...(Depending on when you read this). For the last 400 days or so I've been predicting the death of physical music. I.E. no more CD'S. Turn the clocks back (if you can remember this far) to the early, early 90's and the introduction of cd's as the main supplier of music instead of vinyl and cassette. The transformation was quick as every record store suddenly had no more vinyl. CD'S graced the aisles and the vinyl was gone. And the indie stores were shuffling to sell their existing vinyl at rock bottom prices. I remember going on mad shopping spree's at the local STREETLIGHT RECORDS buying the entire Elvis Costello discography for no more than $2.98 each. I mean, my record player still worked and I wanted to hear the music, so it worked out great for me at least. So now in 2007, the same thing is happening. With the closing of mega music chain TOWER RECORDS, the advancement in digital media players, and hundreds of other factors, when will we see CD'S become obsolete? My prediction is as early as next year. Seriously. I think we'll start seeing more stores close as people turn their backs on physical product and take the digital route. Look around people. Or look in the mirror. Do you have an ipod, mp3 player? Do you even buy music anymore? Or compare the amount of cd's you buy compared to 5 years ago. And what does this mean for the few indie record stores or indie record labels? Or even any record label? Unfortunately I don't have the answer. And luckily for me, I hate the music business(I love music and asian man, we don't play by their rules) so much that it doesn't effect me. When labels are putting out less and less music, I'm putting out more than I've ever done in my life. This year will be the busiest year in the history of the label. We will put out a dozen records this year alone. Crazy. And why does matter? I have no idea? I don't even know why I'm writing about this. I just woke up and started writing. But I'm curious to get your thoughts on the digital realm of music. Please feel free to comment back to me at mikeasianman@aol.com In other news.... Dave from Mustard Plug just gave me the final track listing for the SKA IS DEAD compilation. Looks pretty good. This band will be the darlings of anarchist folk lovers around the globe. Heed my words.... This band will be doing special things in the DIY community. If you remember, I used to have an ASIAN MAN RECORDS day at the OAKLAND A'S baseball stadium. Holding a BBQ and just having fun. Then I stepped it up and rented a generator and actually had bands play in the parking lot. Do any of you remember? Anyways, I'm definitely going to do it again this year to celebrate our 11th YEAR ANNIVERSARY. FUN FUN. I'll keep you posted on this event as I am putting it all together... Again, FUN FUN Peace always, Mike Park |
