WOW!! I think this is the first newsletter I have ever written while the sun was up. But I've got to write something new. First of all, if you're looking on here for news about bands and actual real label stuff, then you've come to the wrong place. I will tell you about some related stuff, but I mostly use this for my own personal stories and such, so just e-mail miya@asianmanrecords.com and ask to be put on the mailing list and you will be e-mailed real label news. Ok, here's what's up. My rib is still hurt. It's been 7 weeks today. What's up with that? The doctor said 4-6 weeks and I'm still injured. I leave for Japan in 2 days to go on tour with my band the CHINKEES and I can't move very well. I'm saddened right now, but it's ok. I will survive. I actually felt better 2 weeks ago, but I think I reinjured myself in Las Vegas. Here's the story: A couple weeks ago, we(Asian Man Records) competed in the PUNK ROCK DIY bowling tournament. I didn't even bowl because my rib, but everytime someone bowled a strike for our team, we just went crazy. We were being over silly and just having fun. But anyways....Steve Borth from LINK 80 kept slapping my rib during the celebration. He wasn't doing it on purpose, he was just excited. I kept saying watch the rib!! But it kept getting hit. Anyways, I went back to the doctor a couple days later because I kept waking up at night in extreme pain and he said I probably re-aggrevated the rib and that there's nothing he can do. I just need to take it easy. It's no fun, because I have to keep telling people the story of how I broke my rib. But whatever. more about the bowling:The bowling tournament was amazing! There were 72 teams. All the bands and labels stayed at the SAHARA hotel and it was quite a sight. There were over 400 punk rockers in the casino gambling until the early morning hours. I'd just walk around and look. It was really quite amusing to myself. I'm thinking "there's lars from Rancid playing black jack next to a grandma and then there's Fat Mike from NOFX playing craps with a bunch of business men. It was an unreal atmosphere. I wish I had filmed the whole event. Asian Man came in 16th. Not bad. Our team was TONY-who does mailorder, Brendan Kelly from Lawrence Arms, Steve Borth From Link 80, and JOTHAM- who's just a fun kid who lives in VEGAS and bowled for us because I couldn't. He actually was the best bowler and a fun person to hang with. thanks JOTHAM for the fun.... Alkaline Trio is in town right now. I'm going to leave in about 5 hours to go see them play at GILMAN ST. in Berkeley. HONOR SYSTEM is on tour with them and I got to see them for the first time last night. I was really blown away. They were better than I expected. Very tight band. Everybody(ALK TRIO, HONOR SYSTEM) is hanging out in Berkeley right now, but I can't go because I've too much work at Asian man. No Fun, at least not right now. I want to play, but I've got a label to run. I've got so many more stories to tell, but very little time. So I'm gonna try to write more often while I'm tour in Japan. Thanks to everyone who wrote asking about my rib and wishing me a speedy recovery. You're all very nice. Have a good day. And have fun. PEACE AND UNITY, Mike Park |
