5:15 PM
AHHHHHH!!!!!! I should have written this newsletter last weekend when the events were fresh in my mind, but alas I’m getting to it now and hopefully I can remember the great details. Ok, this is what happened. In Santa Cruz, Ca. they have a beach boardwalk with an amusement park and it’s on the beach. There’s also a big stage on the beach and during the summer they have free concerts on Friday nights. It’s the usual county fair circuit of has been musicians like Davy Jones, Jefferson Starship, the Coasters, Peter Noone, Bill Haley’s Comets, etc.. But last Friday, July 18th to be exact…We were blessed with the one and only Tiffany. A free concert with Tiffany!!!???? WOW!! I thought. So there are two shows. One is at 6:30 PM and one at 8:30 PM. It’s first come first serve type of deal in terms of where you can sit for the concert, so I leave at 1:30 PM to get a good seat for me and my posse. I bring two blankets and to my dismay I arrive to a huge group that have already staked out their seats for the night. Oh well. I thought I’d be in the front row, but I’m only about 30 to 40 feet back from the stage so all is good. It’s kind of a strange phenomenon this Tiffany character. You see I’ve gone to a few free concerts over the years and they’re always fun, but it’s usually regulated to families on vacation and lots of little kids running wild. But Tiffany brought in the freaks. For some strange reason there were tons of punks at the show. Mixed in with the regulars it made for an interesting visual. Anyways, without being too long winded, let me try to wind this story up. Basically I had been at the beach since 2 PM waiting to see Tiffany, severely sun burned and dehydrated I screamed my head off at this ex-superstar turned Star Dates and Playboy centerfold, but she rocked. I think that’s the most suprising part of the show. She’s talented. Though she played mostly covers, I thought she did a good job. People kept jumping on stage during the show and security was extremely confused as I’m sure they’ve never had to deal with these antics before. I stayed for both shows and then waited two hours after the show to get her autograph. She was really nice by the way. My beach time totaled 10 and a half hours. I was exhausted. On my way back home.(I was riding my bike by the way) I started thinking…..I bet Tiffany has no record label. What if I asked her to be on Asian Man. I know I’m a small label, but wouldn’t that be funny? Hmmm… Oh nevermind she’d never do it or would she??? Hmmmm…. Maybe I will ask her. What do you think? Should I try to contact her? Let me know what you think. You can email me at mikeasianman@aol.com In other happenings, I got an email from a young man named Jeff O’Neil and he set up a live journal chat type of thing for asian man records. It’s at http://livejournal.com/community/asianmanrecords/ He asked me to tell you all about it, so there you go. ENJOY!! AND finally, I am finished with my solo record and will be putting up some MP3’s very soon so you can hear some tracks. The album is called FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC. It will be out in stores on November 11th(MY BIRTHDAY, I TURN 34 YEARS OLD!! GEEEEEZZZ I’M OLD!!) Well, have a great weekend everyone. I’m about to go to dinner in a bit here. For those of you who live in San Jose, the best veggie place to eat is TOFU COM CHIEY on 9th and SANTA CLARA. Seriously, the best food in the world. Today I listened to some very bad demos and washed that sour taste out with some POLYSICS!! Why are they so good?? WHY?? Alrighty, that’s it for now. Smile big and be nice to each. Peace and Unity, Mike Park |
